August may be the time for summer holidays and taking it easy, but there seems to be plenty of work going on around Sleaford at the moment. Between the roadworks on Grantham Road and the temporary closure of the level crossing, getting around town has certainly become a little more interesting! And it's not just the roads that are changing. Work is poised for Sleaford's new multiplex cinema, while new pubs, independent shops and car parks all seem to be popping up everywhere. It's certainly a time of change.
If you were at the Heckington Show, you might have grabbed a bag of popcorn and taken a seat at the NKDC stand to find out more about their cinema plans. We spent the weekend enjoying everything the show had to offer, from the Knights of Nottingham Jousting, showjumping and cycle races to the ever-popular livestock and vegetable competitions. Then, as the sun went down, the main ring transformed into the Glastonbury of Lincolnshire for the spectacular fireworks concert, with performances from the Sleaford Concert Band, local singer Charlie Russel, and Elton John tribute act Rocket Max.
It was also lovely to catch up with some of our friends of the magazine, including Fairfield Farm, where we got to stroke a duck (sorry to everyone behind us in the queue!), Heckington Railway Museum, the Tea Tent and many more. You may remember that last year's Heckington Show effectively saw the launch of the Strong Lincs podcast, with the very first episode recorded at the event. Well, the boys were back this year, capturing even more from one of Lincolnshire's biggest weekends.

So, what about August? Our latest edition is packed with features, including an out-of-this-world experience we had just down the road in South Kyme. A Doctor Who superfan has made national headlines after building an incredible replica of the TARDIS console room inside a humble garden shed. We were thrilled to attend the official launch, where we met the guest of honour, Sophie Aldred, who famously played Ace alongside the Seventh Doctor. Elsewhere, we're back in Heckington to meet exciting new band Temple Bay. They told us about their music, why keeping their Lincolnshire identity matters, and we even featured one of their songs on the Strong Lincs podcast. They've continued releasing new material since our interview, and they're definitely a band worth keeping an eye on.
Our competitions are looking pretty special this month too. You could win a place on a fused glass workshop with The Glass Hippie in Osbournby, something we've experienced ourselves, so we know what a brilliant opportunity it is. We've also got tickets to give away for Sleaford Little Theatre's September production, Blue Stockings.
