June is the month where everything comes to life. With the longest days of the year and light stretching late into the evening, there’s a real sense of energy everywhere. And with that, local events are filling the calendar as we all make the most of the brighter days and warmer weather. June’s YLL shines a light on lots of these exciting things.

On the solstice weekend, Sleaford will be taken over with the very first Midsummer Festival. With no RiverLight taking place this year, there’ll still be lots happening across town with this new event from open air cinema screenings, live music, theatre in the market place, reenactments, dance, and activities. Make sure to head into town on Saturday 20th June and soak up the atmosphere of what promises to be a fantastic weekend for the town.

The following weekend, on the 27th, Sleaford travels back in time again for its much-loved 1940s Day, taking place at the William Alvey School. There’ll be live music and dancing, horse carriage rides, air raid shelter tours, re-enactments, demonstrations, vintage vehicle displays, and more.

JandJ AlpacasAnd, of course, June means it’s time for The Lincolnshire Show, something we’re planning to visit again this year. This month we’re offering one lucky reader free tickets so they can join in on the excitement too, which includes a JLS star, Kelvin Fletcher from Fletcher’s Family Farm, show jumping, the RAF Falcons Display Team, motocross stunts and live music. Pick up the June edition for your chance to win this family e-ticket! There’s also a chance to win an Alpaca ‘Meet and Greet’ experience at JandJ Alpacas located between Grantham and Newark. Get your entries in via our Competitions page.

Elsewhere in the magazine we’re having a kickabout as the FIFA World Cup kicks off (something the guys will also be talking about in this month’s Strong Lincs Podcast episode), we’re taking an alternative look at Father’s Day as we consider the ‘fathers’ of Lincolnshire, and even though there are so many social events going on this month, we’re shining a light on loneliness for Loneliness Awareness Week to inspire conversation and awareness about this human need.

Read also about Lincoln County Hospital’s appeal for local crafters to knit blankets for patients, while we also continue collecting items for upcoming tombolas in support of the St Barnabas Hospice. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far. Soft toys can still be dropped off at our office until 9th July, before being used on a fundraising stall at the Heckington Show.

Remember, if you’re looking to shine a light on your business or event, or you need us to help raise awareness for your cause or charity, we’d love to hear from you. Whether it’s through advertising, editorial features, competitions, social media, or helping support local initiatives, we’re proud to celebrate the people, organisations and events that make our communities special. Here’s to a bright and busy June, and we hope you enjoy this month’s edition.
