One of Lincolnshire’s most spectacular historic estates has announced it will once again welcome visitors this August Bank Holiday as Harlaxton Manor’s popular Summer Open House returns.
Taking place on Sunday 30th and Monday 31st August, the Summer Open House offers a rare opportunity for the public to peek behind the curtain at one of the county’s most fascinating and elusive estates. Guests are invited to explore the magnificent Grade I listed manor, wander through its formal gardens and experience the grandeur of one of the country’s most extraordinary historic houses.
Built in 1831 as an awe-inspiring home for Nottinghamshire businessman Gregory Gregory, the manor has also served as a training ground and an officers’ mess during the two world wars, and as a training centre for Jesuit priests. The manor is now the British campus of the University of Evansville, based in Indiana, and is open to visitors on specific dates throughout the year.
The upcoming open house allows visitors an irresistible opportunity to discover the estate’s ornate interiors, breathtaking mixture of architectural styles and beautifully maintained grounds at their own pace. Traditional lawn games and light refreshments, including a Pimms station and a summer barbecue, will also be available throughout the weekend.

Situated just off the A1 near the borders of Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire, this year’s Summer Open House will feature live performances from the Nottingham vocalist and musician duo Maia & John, whose expressive vocals, accomplished guitar playing and decade of live performance experience make them a popular choice for weddings and events across the region. They will be joined by classically trained pianist Bill Kibby, who will provide an uplifting soundtrack for visitors as they explore the manor and its grounds.
Built in 1831, Harlaxton Manor is renowned for its remarkable blend of Elizabethan, Jacobean and Baroque architecture as well as its fascinating history. The manor’s remarkable cast of former custodians has helped establish it as one of Britain’s most distinctive country houses and a sought-after venue for weddings, events and film productions, including Amazon Prime’s Citadel and the 1999 cult classic horror film, The Haunting.
With free on-site parking, tickets cost £16 for adults, £13 for concessions (65+) and £8.50 for children aged 2 to 16. Meanwhile, family tickets for two adults and up to three children are available for £45. Children under two go free. Advance booking is recommended.
The Summer Open House will run from 10am until 5pm on both days, with last admission at 4pm.
